Hunger Relief

Not always visible to others, food insecurity is a reality in virtually every community. One in seven people in the U.S. do not have reliable access to a sufficient quantity of nutritious food; it’s a devastating source of anxiety that can also serve as a barrier to other opportunities.

That’s why, since 2002, Rent-A-Center has supported hunger relief efforts. Each September our stores collect cash donations earmarked for hunger-relief organizations. At our Plano, Texas, corporate headquarters, coworkers hold an annual spring fundraiser benefiting the North Texas Food Bank , a tradition that began in 2003 and that has raised over $900,000 in donations to NTFB’s fight against hunger in Dallas and 12 surrounding counties. In 2016, our focus on hunger relief evolved into a new partnership with Minnie’s Food Pantry where Rent-A-Center donated over $22,000 in cash and merchandise while coworkers sorted and packed food boxes for those in need.

Fill the Fridge Hunger Relief Campaign Sept. 1-30

At Rent-A-Center, we believe that we are stronger when we are active in supporting the communities in which we all live and work. That’s why we’ve decided to work together with you to help end hunger. Rent-A-Center is proud to partner with Feeding America and its network of 200 food banks nationwide. Starting September 1 through September 30, 2017, Rent-A-Center will raise $150,000 through customer and coworker donations in its stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico to help Fill the Fridge and fight hunger. Every $1 raised is the equivalent of 11 meals to those in need. And you can help.

How can I help?

September is Hunger Action Month. The goal for Fill the Fridge is for every store in the U.S. and Puerto Rico to raise a minimum of $60 during the month. That’s $2 a day for thirty days. If we succeed, we will raise more than $150,000 to fight hunger through local food banks.

There are four ways to donate:

  1. Pin-up Cards - Visit your local Rent-A-Center, Home Choice or Get It Now! Store and buy a pin-up card saying you donated. These cards will be sold at the store’s desk where payments are taken.
  2. Collections Jar - Some stores will display a Collections Jar where you can donate your cash and/or change.
  3. Online – Visit www.feedingamerica.org/fillthefridge to donate online beginning Sept. 1, 2017.
  4. General donation – Or simply donate an amount of your choice at the kiosk or desk.
